Sunrunner Merit Awards

The Semiahmoo Sunrunners Merit Awards were created to encourage Sunrunners to maintain their training by preparing for races and achieving their best efforts. The awards create a time standard to train towards and gives recognition based on merit at the annual club banquet. Gold, Silver and Bronze recognition are awarded. Race times must be submitted by the runner for consideration. Occasionally, a race criteria must be created to recognize some acheivements.

In addition to a time standard members are assigned points for each race or event that they participate in. Anyone receiving 100 points in a year receives “Super- Semi” award recognition and is part of the "Super-Semi" Club for that year. The assumption behind the 100 point level is that to achieve 100 points an individual had to train and participate for 8-9 months in the year. The Female earning the most number of points in a year will receive the award of "Female Endurance Athlete of the Year" while the male with the most number of points will receive the "Harvey Nelson Male Endurance Athlete of the Year" award.

Bill Bowness Cross Country Award

The Bill Bowness Cross Country Award is given each year to an individual who participates in the Lower Mainland X Country Series. Bill Bowness was a keen X-Country runner who especially enjoyed the close friendships and great support he received from his fellow XC runners. This award recognizes not only the results but the effort and spirit that Bill exhibited every time he lined up to race. To qualify participants must take in at least 5 of the 8 Lower Mainland XC Series races. Participants must also complete at least 5 races to have a placing in the series.

Points are awarded in each race on a declining basis from 30 points for 1st place in an age category on down .
