Sunrunner Bursaries



Three more outstanding individuals this time from the Class of 2012 received Semiahmoo Sunrunner Running Club Bursaries to recognize their athletic, scholastic and community achievements in 2012. The bursary recipients are chosen by their schools. Naomi West from Elgin Park Secondary is profiled below.


Naomi West

Naomi participated as a Track and Field Athlete at Elgin for 4 years in addition to participating in the Global Activist Club, Grad Council, Student’s Council and PE Leadership. Naomi’s community involvement included White Rock Music and Dance. She is a lyrical dancer and has played piano for 10 years. We wish Naomi all the best in the future.



Congratulations go out to three outstanding individuals who have each received Grade 12 bursaries in 2011 from the Semiahmoo Sunrunners. Funds were provided for the bursaries from proceeds raised at various club functions including the Sandcastle City Classic 10k. The following individuals were chosen by their schools to receive a bursary.

Elgin Park Secondary

Jake Bruchet

 Jake was 2010-11 Elgin Park Secondary Male Athlete of the Year. He won several running, cross country and track events during his time at Elgin. He participated in a number of sports including basketball, rugby, baseball, track and x-country running. Jake will be attending UBC on a track and x-country running scholarship.

Earl Marriot Secondary

Robyn Venema

Robyn has been active in sports throughout her time at EMS participating in track, x-country running, soccer and basketball. She was a member of the winning BC Provincials 4×100 relay team. Robyn will be attending Acadia University to study Environmental Sciences.

Semiahmoo Secondary

Jack Williams

Jack Williams is a talented runner and athlete from an early age. He has persevered from a near fatal accident a few years ago to become one of Canada’s best young middle distance runners. Jack will be attending UBC in pursuit of both academic and athletic achievement.
