We are a Running and
Walking Club based in
South Surrey / White
Rock
The Semiahmoo Sunrunners Running club was founded in 1981 at the
suggestion of Myron Neville to Tom and Cheryl Howard. Tom was a
Canadian Olympic athlete who ran a 4th place finish in the Boston
Marathon in 1978. Cheryl was also an Olympic athlete
competing in rowing.
The inaugural meeting was held at the home of well known local
veterinarian, Dr. Olafson. Eight people showed up and the club was
formed. By 1982 the club had grown large enough to hold the first
Terry Fox run in South Surrey.
The first running of the Sandcastle City Classic was run in
1984, making the 2008 edition of the race the 25th anniversary.
